My reasoning behind 35 was based off the idea that in order to deliver a product that the market wants, you have to silence the noise (your competitors) and to focus on the customers' needs. By fazing out competitors, you also open the door to work via first principles. That way you're able to look at the core foundations of the product and rethink its design and build in a way that wouldve been impossible had you focused/copied what already existing market participants have done (eg: Uber, Apple's M1 chip and SpaceX with cheap, reusable rockets).
yes fair enough and I agree with your point. The reason i disagreed was more to do with my view that for your idea/company to succeed one should focus in many things, and not disregard competitors. I believe based in what i have learned that you can gain a huge advantage by understanding what your competitor offers, as one could replicate what their competitor do, learn from their mistakes, or purposefully do something different to them, to benefit
